Using long, colorful glass rods, I melt the rods in a flame 1200 to 1700 degrees to create each glass bead. A bead can be made on a mandrel, a stainless steel rod coated with release, or off-mandrel using a special punty. By constantly rotating and shaping the molten glass in and out of the flame, different designs can be achieved. This process is called lampwork (more commonly known today as flamework) because centuries ago, artists first used oil lamps to create their designs. I use a broad range of glass from Italy, Germany and the United States in all of my work. When I complete a glass piece, it is placed in a digitally controlled kiln to properly anneal. This ensures strength and durability in the glass, however, please remember it is GLASS and must be treated with care. I try to accurately depict the color of my work as close as possible to the original. However, all computer monitors are different so the actual colors may differ slightly than what is on your screen. Exact sizes are noted in the description.
